APPLYING
So you think you'd like to apply, do you? First, we need to go over a couple of basics, like the rules, the nature of the game, and how this whole shebang actually works.
Before we proceed, here's a general warning:
The majority of the players in this game are above 18. As such, there is no limit to the type of content that may be played out. While potentially offensive or adult content will be clearly marked, it is up to you to determine whether or not you want to (or are legally allowed) view or participate in this type of content. Since this is an action RPG, there is likely going to be plenty of blood, violence, and death. No, that's not the main focus of the game, but it happens.
Additionally, this is a game in which the entire plot is not revealed to the players before the story is set in motion. Some characters may not be who they say they are, and many characters - NPCs and PCs - are expected to switch allegiances as play progresses. A reasonably mature level of play is expected in dealing with these events. (In other words, you may not call foul if suddenly your character's best buddy turns out to be Dr. Doom.)
This is just a general warning to cover our asses. If swearing offends you, you can't stand not knowing WTF is going on at all times, or you do not appreciate the finer subtleties of the D: face, this may not be the game for you. (And in case you have not yet inferred it, a sense of humour is strongly recommended.)
For a full, all-encompassing set of rules, please click here. We do expect you not to break any of those rules, but you don't have to read the whole list; most of it is common sense. If you're unfamiliar with what constitutes "acceptable roleplaying behaviour," however, you may want to give it a skimming over.
As far as applying is concerned, the process is simple: you write an application, proofread it about 8 billion times, and e-mail it to me (address is on the template). I review it, possibly show it to a few other members if I'm on the fence, and then make my decision. My biggest pieces of application advice: This is like a college. We're looking for a diverse cast of characters with different strengths and weaknesses. We like things to be varied. Try to go for something out of the ordinary - something that makes me think I just HAVE to have you. Detail is your friend. The more in-depth you are, the better, as far as I'm concerned. I want vivid, fleshed-out characters. This doesn't mean your profile has to be 20 pages long; you can be concise and descriptive at the same time. Don't BS to fill up space, but don't make broad statements and then refuse to back them up. Most importantly, spend time on your application. Rome wasn't built in a day, and I've never seen a stunning application that was written in one sitting. Take time to get to know your character. Make them real, and it'll make us want to get to know 'em.
That's all the important stuff. The details (character limits, additional requirements) are outlined in the rules. One final, very important piece of advice:
READ EVERYTHING ON THE PAGE!
Make sure you're familiar with the environment, the storyline, and the other characters before you start to write. It'll make things so much easier, I promise. And if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask them (either via e-mail or using the forum).
APPLICATION TEMPLATES
All of that said, please make your choice:
Apply to The Order of the Knights of Acacia.
Apply as a Pilot in the Sabazius Program.
If you would like to apply as someone else - a third party, someone affiliated with a different company/group, an independent, what have you - please just pick one of the above templates and adjust it to fit your needs. Some positions that I can think of offhand are Empire employees (such as that enigmatic PR agent, who we hope to be deliciously seedy, scientists, whatever) or random magic-users who may get involved/ally with either side but not get a dragon or a mech (I imagine not everyone sees riding a dragon as a fun endeavour, and some people may prefer to fight independently).
Also, please note (and this is important): While all pilots and knights must be humans (this is after all the battle for humanity.. or something), minor characters do not. This doesn't mean we want a whole host of elves running around, but since this is a fantasy environment it would be perfectly acceptable to have a few non-human characters, though bear in mind that anything that doesn't LOOK like a human is NOT going to be accepted by humans or live in human society - much the same way we wouldn't welcome a monster into town today. Non-humans are very rare, at least as far as humans know, since all "magical" creatures on the continent have basically been forced into hiding by those pesky (and destructive) humans. Also, please note that we will NOT be accepting any angsty, self-hating werewolves, Casanova "darkness-of-my-soul!" vampires, or any other such stereotypical fantasy fare. No matter what species you chose - and I can think of none that are off limits - be original about it. Also, note that we likely won't be accepting more than one of the same species unless the characters are related in some way, and we will almost certainly not be accepting more than one of things like werewolves (which presumably were ultra-rare even back in the day when mythical beasties ran about all over.)
APPLICATION HELP
Please see this document.
Do you have a question regarding the setting, a character idea, or other application problems? Please be sure to read everything on this page, but if that still doesn't help, hit up the forums. Past questions are listed there, too you might not be the only one who was confused on a certain issue!
