ARCHETYPE LIST

The Following is a list of character archetypes suitable for the setting, the skeleton of which was copies with permission from The Farthest Land (originator) and Go Greek! Mythos, with revisions, rewrites, and further additions by me. Borrowed archetypes are designated by the colour-coded hearts (♥ for Farthest, ♥ for Mythos, and ♥ for my own contributions).

This list is intended to give you inspiration and general ideas; we do not want you to app a walking stereotype. However, others have found the list extremely helpful in coming up with a starting point for your character.

♥ The Angst-Ridden Youth
Alright James Dean, we know you're going through a lot of changes right now, but get over it. You're handsome, but sullen, conflicted and probably at odds with everything in power.

♥ The Avenger
Now that everything has been taken away from you, the only thing that can calm your soul, make life worth living again is to enact revenge on those who destroyed your happiness.

♥ The Acrobat
Your style and grace are uncontested, and your abilities take onlookers' breath away- and that's when you're not in battle. If your flashy finesse doesn't impress your enemies, think of how good you'll look when you're kicking their asses.

♥ The Bandit Leader
Whether it's a band of thieves, a crew of pirates, or a rag-tag group of street urchins, you and your friends live for a good time - although your idea of a good time might not exactly be legal.

♥ The Blind Warrior
Losing your sight has only made your other senses stronger. Although you can no longer see, you're just as powerful - and usually moreso - than anyone else.

♥ The Born Loser
The grass is always greener on the other side for you. Although you're probably friendly, kind and at least a little intelligent, things just don't seem to work out for you, and your life just ends up miserable.

♥ The Chosen One
When you were born, the stars aligned, the earth shook, and the heavens wept. You have the potential to be the greatest hero ever known, even if you've got a huge Messiah complex.

♥ The Clumsy Hero
Whoops, you didn't mean to do that. Oops, you're sorry! You didn't mean to hit that guy in the nose. Oh no, did you break something? Somewhere between all your blundering, you actually managed to save the day, so it isn't a big deal.

♥ The Cold Beauty
How can someone so lovely be so cold? Marvelous as your beauty is, it hasn't avoided you a lifetime full of pain - but you've managed to turn that pain into strength.

♥ The Cop on the Edge
A jaded police officer, you'll go to any means to see justice served, even if you have to bend the rules and bust some heads in the process.

♥ The Drunken Master
What's life without a good drink or seven? "Too Much" isn't in your vocabulary, and that's probably a good thing - your skills are actually more honed when you're inebriated, and you're capable of things that you'd never dream of doing sober.

♥ The Exile
Exiled from your home and those you love, you are painfully aware that you can never return to the life you left behind. Alternately, maybe life has always been this way; maybe you've never had a home. In some cases, the Exile is pursued by those who exiled him.

♥ The Fiery Youth
Your passion and drive is encompassed only by your inexperience. You have an undying need to prove yourself as soon as possible, no matter what it takes.

♥ The Girl-Next-Door
You're a kind, friendly familiar face that is often overlooked, despite being a truly beautiful person. You don't have many bells or whistles, but you're amazing enough by just being you.

♥ The Guard
You've dedicated your life to protecting something, and any threat to it is going to have to go right over your dead body.

♥ The Hero with a Tragic Past
You've overcome trial after trial, heartache after heartache. You may or may not be ready to face your demons yet, but despite all you've been through, you're able to do what you believe is right.

♥ The Holy Warrior
You were chosen by the gods to carry out a divine mission, and you do so without question- no matter what the physical, mental, or emotional cost put upon you.

♥ The Ingenue
You don't understand why there is evil in the world, or why fighting is necessary. Your pureheartedness melts the icy dispositions of those around you, and you yearn for peace in a war-torn world.

♥ The Jester
Whether you know it or not, you have the ability to lighten a tense crowd through sheer sense of humor, clumsiness or hilarious hijinks. You'll pull the party together when things start to fall apart with your ability to make people laugh.

♥ The Jock
You're a sports star and everyone seems to love you. You may not be very bright, but you've got skill and agility on your side.

♥ The Knight Errant
You go where you are needed, and never stay longer than you have to. Credit for your good deeds is never an issue, and you are a force of righteousness in the world. You goody-two-shoes.

♥ The Lovable Rogue
You may steal from the rich and give to the poor, You may be a hero of the peasant class, or you may just have a wonderful personality. Either way, you're a ruffian and a rogue that people just can't bring themselves to hate.

♥ The Loyal Soldier
No matter what the order is, you'll do it. If your commanding officer asks you to take part in a mission that requires you to leave your home and family for years and years, you'd gladly take it.

♥ The Magician
You're capable of controlling the unique and fascinating power of magic, and astound others with its use. People may think you're a bit odd, and you may have a few screws loose, but who cares? They can't do what you can do!

♥ The Mystic
You're sometimes a master of weapons, or a sage, or a holy man. Whatever your means, you're capable of magical feats that stem from your spiritual abilities.

♥ The Noble
You're part of the upper crust of society, and boy do you know it. You know how to enjoy the finer things in life, and while you may let it get to your head, it's not a bad thing to be better than anyone else. God forbid you go outside every once in a while.

♥ The Outlaw
You're a criminal, plain and simple. Your face is known in every corner of the empire, and there are bounty hunters and law enforcement dogging your every move. If only they knew the real story, maybe then they'd leave you alone.

♥ The Priest
Your life is your faith, and vice versa. You live to spread the teachings of your doctrine of choice, come hell or high water.

♥ The Prodigy
You may be a mere student, but your skill and ability match that of the masters. No one knows why you're so good at what you do, and you've earned quite a bit of jealousy from your fellow students.

♥ The Rebellious Princess
Maybe you're at odds with the beliefs of your government. Maybe your family is trying to marry you off. Maybe you're just tired of arguing with your dad. Whatever it is, you're going to cause your family some stress by standing up for what you believe in.

♥ The Sorcerer
Magic runs through your veins. In your thirst for knowledge, you've become something greater than you were; now that you've had a taste of power, there's no way you could ever turn back. Your life is dediated to the use and research of magic, and woe to anything- or anyone- that gains your ire.

♥ The Strategist
You possess a great analytical mind. You're able to think ahead in any situation to plan what the most desirable outcome may be, whether in a war room or on a battlefield. Your keen wits are your strongest weapon.

♥ The Repentant
You've done horrible things, made terrible mistakes. But that's in the past, and you're willing to do everything in your power to make things right again.

♥ The Scholar
Having spent your life absorbed in records and books, you understand the need for education. This does not mean you have spent your life inside libraries- you may be so inclined to travel and learn the ways of the world for yourself, to quench your insatiable thirst for knowledge.

♥ The Strongman
Your muscles ripple like waves, and your strength causes nearby women to faint. You could probably lift an elephant if you tried hard enough. Your concept of inner strength is best shown on the epidermis. You're a powerhouse.

♥ The Traveler
Wandering from place to place, never settling down, you are a person with few ties and few cares. Perhaps you're looking for something, or perhaps you're training yourself; maybe you just don't like commitment. Whatever the reason, you don't stay in one place long enough for people to get to know the type of person you are.

♥ The Tree-Hugger
You're a total hippie. You love plants and animals. You don't eat meat and you don't use anything that might put "harmful chemicals" into your body. You're motivated by your ideals, and fail to see that everyone else doesn't think "Peace on Earth" is the ultimate objective of humanity.

♥ The Vigilante
Whether you're battling an oppressive government, attackers from the outside, or simply for your own beliefs, you're ready to fight and you're taking matters into your own hands. While some may frown on your methods, you get the job done well.

♥ The Wandering Monk
Perhaps you're on a pilgrimage, or maybe you have no temple to call home. Either way, you take your doctrine to the road, and preach your ideals on the street corners of the empire. Of course, you've learned a few tricks to survive out in the mean world. The Heavenly Emperor would be proud.

♥ The War Hero
Your actions and your actions alone brought a resounding victory to your people. You're hailed as a great hero everywhere you go and are beloved by the empire.

♥ The Wanton
On the battlefield, you've torn through foe and friend alike in your thirst for blood. Your exploits of savagery are the stuff of legends as well of the stuff of nightmares. But you're not such a bad guy, really!

♥ The Wise Old Man
You've been around the block a few times. You've borne witness to decades of events, and you're not about to let those whippersnappers today repeat them. You've probably picked up the ability to kick a few rappscallions around along the way, too.
