Hi. You've reached the portal of Dilandau's life story. Lots and lots of spoilers here, 'cause I work from the beginning to the end instead of the middle to the end to the beginnine like the show does.. did that make any sense? ^^;; Um.. anyway. ^^; If you don't like spoilers, click back on your browser right now. Otherwise, read on. ^^;
Once upon a time, there was a very old emperor of a kingdom called Zaibach. This emperor, who happened to be named Dornkirk, oversaw a series of experiments designed to see if it were possible to completely change a person's destiny. The experiments were conducted by a group of sorcerors, and were pretty hush-hush. The test subject was a young girl of the Schezar family, Celena (sometimes spelled Serena since "L" and "R" and interchangeable in Japanese ^^;), who was sort of spirited away. ^^; (Her older brother Allan grew up to be a proud Knight Caeli of Asturia, but never forgot about his little sister and continued to search for her for a long time. ^^;)
While she was in captivity, she met a pretty golden haired beast-like creature named Jajuka whose job was to take care of her until the sorcerors did their experimenting. He was something of a slave, but he became sort of a friend to her. The sorcerors, meanwhile, did Very Bad Things(tm) to poor Celena, and went so far as to inject hormones into her body to induce the "destiny reassignment." They ended up changing her both mentally and physically, turning her into a person very different from the sweet, innocent little girl she once was. As a matter of queer coincidence, they changed her into an insane, sadistic, male pyromaniac.
Dilandau Albatau.
Dilandau was strong, Dilandau was ruthless, Dilandau was put in charge of a group of warriors in Dornkirk's army named the Dragon Slayers. He got a sword and a guymelef and homicidal tendencies, and everything was all hunky dorey. (He was a lot cuter than he was as a girl too, but that's just my opinion.. ^^;;)
Anyway, the Dragon Slayers were in charge of finding this legendary mech suit type thingy called the Escaflowne. Along the way they met a guy called Van Fanel, and Van made the mistake of fighting with Dilandau (granted Dil was gonna kill him.. but.. still.. =P) He cut poor Dilandau's face, which he treasured very very much, and Dil snapped. He became overcome with a rage and a very very intense desire to hunt down and kill Mr. White Dragon. ^^; Anyvay, in the pursuit of doing both that and his assigned task of finding the Escaflowne, all of his Dragon Slayers were killed and he was the only one who survived. ^^; In a touching scene where he wishes his dead soldiers goodbye, he becomes overcome by emotion and passes out. ^^;
After that he starts having flashbacks to when he was Celena and sort of regresses to his female form twice, as the emotional strain of battle is making him sink further into his madness. ^^; He makes the turn around completely with the aid (and self-sacrifice) of his loyal companion from before, Jajuka (you knew he had to come back in somewhere ;P), during the final battle of the Gaean War. So.. no more Dil. ;_;
